Is this a common thing right now, or was it just him? His character name was changed, his HP was lowered, and the party notes for their Bag of Holding were altered or deleted. He doesn't access public terminals (he works from home) only his computer and cell phone, so he didn't leave his account open somewhere. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi there,
it's extremely unlikely that there was any security breach of the D&D Beyond site.
If the character was in a campaign, then the campaign owner has access to edit all characters in the campaign.
Your player should also consider whether it's possible that anyone could have access to their Twitch account, or email account.
Failing that, please ask your friend to submit a support ticket.
