Every time I visit this site now I get a popup demanding that I either express joy at your acquisition (the "Awesome!" button) or request more information. There's an "X" button to close the popup as well without choosing either of those options, which is good because I don't know if the acquisition is "awesome" and I've already looked at the "more information".
Please remove this popup. It makes it harder to access your product and feels like an imposition. You can let customers know about the acquisition in a number of other ways, such as a featured story on your main page, or perhaps an icon next to your search bar at the top of every page.
I can get behind this request, because the first time I visited the DDB website and saw that pop up, I assumed your website had been hacked. I assumed that this was a malicious malware attempt. Seeing that is a very common way for malware to gain access to a computer, I feel there are much better ways to bring this merger information to light. I cannot believe I'm alone in that thought process and would hate to have newcomers be concerned about the security of this website due to the strangely designed popup message.
I don't care that Fandom owns Curse, but holy crap is that pop-up a disgusting piece of propaganda. The last one I saw said "OKAY" instead of "AWESOME". Maybe they changed it.
It's a dialogue that needs to appear until you've explicitly acknowledged it. It's a regulatory compliance thing and so you have to click an overt acknowledgement button (AWESOME/OKAY)
Hanlon's razor; never attribute to malice what can equally be attributed to ignorance. It's hardly 'propaganda-like', they were just trying to be light-hearted about an otherwise obligatory requirement.
I am actually really opposed to the Fandom buyout. There's no "Reject" or "opt out" option at all, only the option to close the pop-up for it to re-appear a few pagers later. It feels like they are hoping for me to accidentally click "Okay" without reading it.
And with phrases like "You will be unable to access your account on Curse Media sites after this transition, unless you provide consent" it feels like I'm being blackmailed into providing consent or they will hold my $175+ of purchases hostage with no option for a refund.
If that happens they can fully expect a chargeback from my bank
If you choose to delete your account, you can. But if you want to continue using D&D Beyond, you're going to have to be okay with it-- Since Fandom now owns Curse. There's not really a way to 'opt out' of the new ownership without opting out of the site as a whole-- Which means your nonrefundable digital products will not be useable. Remember that you did agree to the terms of the digital content being nonrefundable when you purchased it.
I'm more than aware of that, Which is exactly why I used the phrase "No option for a refund" :)
Also the Opt Out I was referring to was on the pop up. As discussed earlier there is no option to say no and stop the pop-up reappearing multiple times. How would one even opt out of a merger? xD
You can't 'not' agree to the transfer. It's happened, they just need your confirmation that you're aware of it. As for not agreeing with the new terms, you can either except them or end your usage of the service.
And with regards to a refund, that option was never on the table when you purchase the items. Part of the terms of service was that purchases are non-refundable, terms of service that have not changed with regards to your purchase.
Also, I find it kind of absurd that you're using an adblocker to hide the message, rather than just dismiss it. It seems like a round-the-houses way to accomplish the same thing, but if this is the asinine hill you want to die on...
Hi Dave, You can actually "not agree" to the transfer of your data from Twitch, it's outlined in the "Read more" section as well as what will happen if you choose to do so. You do this by never clicking the "Awesome/Okay" which was the entire point of my two posts. It would break the GDPR if they done it without your consent.
As mentioned earlier dismissing the message makes it go away for a few pages, but it will re-appear again. So in short if I dismiss it 50 times then accidentally click "Okay" once I would have agreed to it. (50 no's and a yes, means yes). Hence the need to block the pop-up outright.
As a note, it is possible to withdraw your consent after, but that involves contacting the support team and I imagine the popups will reappear.
Finally, Regarding the refunds, I thought I made it clear in my last post that I was never expecting one - I in fact stated that there would be no option for one.
-Edit : As a thought I just realized we might be seeing different messages depending on whether we are from the US or EU. I myself am from the EU which is why I am being asked to agree to the Transfer.
Your data has already been transferred. GDPR means that if you're not happy with this, you can terminate your account and they have up delete your data. Refusing to click agree/got it/awesome doesn't prevent that, and that doesn't violate GDPR .
Hi again Dave, I'm afraid you're mistaken about my data already being transferred from twitch. GDPR specifically prevents this without the users consent which is why they're only asking for consent from EU users.
The key sections I'm referencing are Paragraph two : "Because we are seeking your consent to transfer your account terms and the associated personal data, you may choose to provide consent or you may decline to provide consent." and paragraph four " If you do not provide consent before that time, we will delete your personal data from the sites/services to be transferred, and leave a secure copy behind with Twitch for a limited period of time".
Hope that clears things up and makes it a bit clearer :)
"we will delete your personal data from the sites/services to be transferred, and leave a secure copy behind with Twitch for a LIMITED period of time". So they are saying that they will delete all your data and your account after a while if you do not agree
Also "Please note that you will be unable to access your account on the Curse Media sites/services after this transition unless you provide consent us to transfer your account and data."
This is exactly why we are unhappy, "Agree to the transfer and new terms or you'll lose the content you paid for" feels like strong-arming they player base.
But for those of us that have made our choice there's no way to permanently dismiss the pop-up.

Fandom is...not awesome in general. I feel great skepticism about this.

It's the propaganda-like "AWESOME" that we're complaining about.

Saying 'Awesome' just dismisses the message, and makes it not appear again. You don't need to die on this hill. :P
Oh, That's the thing, They are being very sneaky. Clicking "Awesome" or "Okay" agrees to the transfer and new terms!
Found a way around it though, You can use addbloker to block that particular element and never see the pop-up again! :D

This is elaborated further in the "More Information" section. You can read it here : https://curseweb.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360013752373-Curse-Media-and-Fandom-are-joining-forces-

That does, thanks. Sorry for perpetuating incorrect information, to the point of putting people at risk of getting their accounts deleted.
This makes people asking for a way to hide or disable the message even more foolish, as they're setting their account up got deletion

I agree with Davedamon, the risk of deletion by not agreeing is too high
