Maybe this has been said before, I don't usually check forums unless I have a question, but this really irks me. Saving user created content should not require a subscription. It's particularly silly considering some of us have paid a lot of money for content on here, and don't want a subscription just for this one feature. At least get rid of the pay wall for those of us who have paid for content, though it would be better if you got rid of it entirely because it's, quite frankly, stupid to charge for content created by users.
Also paying the same price for digital content as we do for hardcover books is also very outrageous, literally nobody else does that! Though I don't expect this to change.
Sorry if this sounds harsh. Other than those things, I really enjoy dnd beyond. I particularly enjoy the character sheet, which is absolutely fantastic by the way!
On your second point, the digital content isn't the same price as the hardcovers. I paid £33 for Ghosts of Saltmarsh physical, whereas I would've paid about £20 for the digital version. In actuality, I paid closer to £15 (almost half the price) because of discount codes.
The team looks for every opportunity to make the pricing easier on users, and one example is the Essentials Kit that is coming out later this month. Since the kits are shrink-wrapped, D&D Beyond has been able to put a code in the box that will allow users to get the included adventure on D&D Beyond. Hopefully they'll be able to do this more in the future!
As for subscriptions - No user is required to have a subscription to use D&D Beyond, but it does open up additional features of the site. Currently the Hero Tier subscription is tailored towards users wishing to increase their character count and subscribe to user-created homebrew, but there is nothing preventing you from recreating that homebrew for yourself. The team is always looking in to ways to increase the value of these subscription plans. Please see the Zendesk FAQ for further details.
