The essentials kit version of the rule book, containing character creation rules and options and the appendix for sidekicks, doesn't seem to be available on D&D Beyond. Is this intentional? I mean, I own the box set so I can just use my own, but having a digital version I can copy text into notes from on my phone would be nice.
Ok, thanks for linking them to me, but how does one navigate to them? They're absolutely not available in the app, and I can't find them in the sources list.
EDIT: NVM I get it now. It's not a separate sourcebook, it's in the adventure on the website. That giant list of plain-text is actually links that take you to sections.

You mean these sections?

If there is a rulebook that comes with the essentials kit that is not the adventure, it may be just the basic rules.
The Essentials Kit box set does include a rulebook - it's a trimmed down version of the Basic Rules that are freely available on D&D Beyond.
As DxJxC linked above, the sidekick rules and "first session" information is also fully available.

There is a sourcebook named "basic rules." You dont need to buy an adventure or anything to access it, it is completely free.
