Now, I'm not saying this is what I'm going to do, as I like to support things that I like and gain a benefit from, but correct me if I'm wrong here, I could, if I wanted to, once the site launches officially, create a free account and input everything from all books as my personal, unpublished homebrew, and create up to 6 character sheets that I can use as much as I like, even using them in other people's campaigns?
That, umm, I mean... if that's correct then... how on earth do you expect to make money?

In part, they expect you to not do that. For the rest of it, well, do you want to use other people's published homebrew? Or have 7+ characters? I'm sure a Moderator will have a more comprehensive answer.
Pretty sure that it would take a LONG time to enter all of that content for personal use.
Yah, but currently what I'm seeing is that it could be done. And the devs have made it very easy to input things. I wanted to test out DDB tonight while running a session but 6 of the 8 monsters weren't in the SRD so I whipped them up. Took all of about 10 minutes, and that was me being pretty lackadaisical about it.

You own the books. If you want to take the time to digitize everything for your own campaign/table, then feel free. ;)
I am just hoping the eventual pricing will be flexible. Maybe something like subscription based for access to all content, some form of discounted price for access to base content + books you have already purchased, and a reasonable non-subscription price for modules/books you don't have.
I don't envy the team that has to come up with pricing and licencing here. I can see issues where a person may join a local game and not have their own book, so they borrow the DM's book (maybe they are newbies and don't know yet if they want to play regularly) and they create a character that is not available on the free version. Now, if they want to play that character with the web-interface with the rest of the group, they may be forced to make a costly purchase. I hope there is some sort of sharing in the works for situations like this. Perhaps allow each player to share a character slot with access to all of their purchased content with someone, this way, a new person can jump in with a group, and if they like it, they can make thier own purchased. Maybe limit a person to 3 characters with content that isn't tied to their account if they have a buddy willing to give up a character slot ...
Stuff like recreating the entire DMG/PHB/VGtM/MM etc. in homebrew sections will NOT be allowed to be published. You'd have it as a private creation. So that means anyone who wants to do that would have to input every single thing themselves. It would not show up on the public homebrew listings. So if people really want to, they could. Would take a long ass time. More people either don't have the time, are not that willing to pursue that, or actually want to support WotC than people who have the mindset of "huehue, gonna put hours upon hours into this to get it all for free". I own every core and supplemental book, and Xanathar's is on pre-order. I'd still pay for a service that will have everything condensed and more easy to browse, along with tools.

Going to butcher summarize the Dragon+ article covering D&D Beyond and how DMs can share their unlocked content with free account players. To your point, these free players will not have to spend additional money to share in the unlocked content to play with friends.
The Master Tier is reserved for dedicated DMs and allows them to gain twelve campaign character slots which they use to extend invites to free player accounts. With a Master Tier Subscription, players can use all of the DM's unlocked content for their characters. So if the DM has unlocked Volo's, any players with free accounts that are part of the DM's campaign can create a tabaxi sorcerer that has a gazer familiar.

Also, homebrew doesn't (currently) allow everything to be customised - whilst races & subclasses are coming, I'm not sure about feats.
Ultimately, the staff team will have looked at the commercial aspect, based upon the knowledge that Curse has from running numerous community sites.
