I know many DMs are married to a specific rulebook that they've used for years. I'm getting ready to play with a DM who thinks this (D&DB) is cool, but won't even consider using it because he uses a set of books from the 90's because that's what he knows and likes. I suspect this situation is not uncommon.
Would it be possible to enable a feature that would apply an older set of rules, and have that set reflected in the compendium, items, character options, spells, etc.?
D&D Beyond is specifically for the current edition of D&D, fifth edition. There won't be support added for previous editions.
I've been playing D&D since I got the red box set in the 80s, so I know where your DM is coming from - I can still recall some of the 2e AD&D rules better than the 5e ones, but with the sheer complexity of D&D Beyond, the cost of implementing a solution for previous editions would be to take away developers that are working on making this 5e solution the best that it can be.
I'm very excited for the awesomeness that D&D Beyond will be, especially with some of the amazing features that will be worked on after launch!

Or are we alone in this? I honestly don't know...
