My DM is giving me Magic Initiate as a bonus feat at character creation. I am level one. I am able to add the feat on my character sheet, but there is no option for choosing the class that it's associated with. Because of that, it doesn't give me the ability to add the spells.
Do you own or have access to the PHB in that campaign? It sounds like you might not have access (as it's not a free feat) and are seeing someone's homebrew version instead. If you were seeing the PHB version, it would say * PHB next to the feat name on your character sheet. If it's a homebrew version, the line with the feat name will have no other information. If you're seeing a homebrew version you'll either need to buy the feat in question, or homebrew your own version of the feat.
Yeah, there is no (good) reason to split them up, but that's what they did.
Yup, that was it. I don't know why I didn't see that at first. Why is there even a non-class defined Magic Initiate if it doesn't do anything?
Thanks for the help!
Certain things are designed as place holders until the system is better suited to reflect the books.
the feat is simply called "Magic Initiate" so if they did not make that feat it would not be available in areas like the feat section of the compendium. However the system cannot properly do all the things the feat can do off of one feat. So instead they had to split it up. But the books says there is only one magic initiate feat so again they have to technically have the "correct" feat as per the books.

Anyone know how to go about this?
Thanks!

"Magic Initiate (Class)", not "Magic Initiate".
