I am not sure if this is by design or not but I have made items, and loaded items like the Alchemy Jug, and when I click use and then long rest they do not reset on their own.
My players are having a similar issue. Magic items I have created that have "long rest" to restore charges are not restoring charges after a long rest.
I am having the same issue. I'm using a custom scroll with charges to track spell points that are supposed to reset on a long rest but they don't reset. I also have tried making the scroll require attunement out of curiosity and it seems like it is not registering as an attuneable item either.
Scrolls are generally a 1 time use item which is probably why you cant set it as an attunement item. Try changing the item type to Wonderous Item and just have the description state that it is a scroll.
As of this post it seems this has not yet been addressed.
For anyone interested, I have found a fairly reasonable work around. I created a custom feat to go along with my item, which allows you to add "limited uses" under the Actions section. The item description says something along the lines of "While wielding this weapon you gain the benefits of the <Custom Feat> feat" and I let the player who has the item add the custom feat (at the bottom of Features and Traits).
Adding an action with limited uses works with the designated rest type and resets like everything else!
I totally agree that this needs to be fixed. Is there a button to add to the "long rest" option that says (new dawn?) or something like that. Or just add a separate new dawn option. It seems to me that a long rest would only happen once per day anyway, but that depends on how each campaign works I guess.
This problem if it was fixed it is back, if it hasn't been fixed its still an issue. I created an item that would allow the player to cast a spell once per short rest, yet when we click take short rest it does not reset the charge on the item. I tried switching it to long rest to see if it would work there and still nothing. I also switched the item from non-attunement to attunement to see if that was the problem and it still wouldn't work.
Really? Because when adding charges to a homebrew item, the form asks for:
Has Charges (checkbox)
Number of Charges (value input)
Charge Reset Condition (dropdown)
If I select "Long Rest" for the Charge Reset Condition, these charges should be reset when clicking "Long Rest" on the character sheet. This is not an ambiguous reset method. It is clearly defined when the item was created.
EDIT: Also, this is exactly how actions with limited uses behave when added to a Feat, which is what I was forced to use as a workaround. The behavior is already programmed into the system, it just needs to be applied to items as well as feat actions.
Items provided by official sources can and often do have charges with variable resets. For example: 1d4-1 charges on a long rest. The character sheet does not currently support that.
I would like to see this fixed as well. I tried to create an item that allows six uses per long rest, so I selected 'Long Rest' in the reset type. However, when I add it to my character sheet, it doesn't reset after a long rest.
The Reset Type box is there and it does let you select the different types of reset so, as others have said before me, it seems that it's actually just bugged?
It's still bugged... I'm trying to build items to reset after a long rest but they're not resetting when my character hits the "take a long rest" option on the character sheet.

I"m not sure I am following how to do this or what it does. Pretty new to DnD Beyond and creating homebrew stuff.
Anyone give me an explain like I am 5 or more detailed instructions?
I realize this is "not a bug" but bumping this because I agree with everyone that it is an issue. For example, items that grant a spell that can be cast X times, with the charges renewing at dawn -- after a Long Rest, the spell is greyed out on the character sheet. How are we supposed to mark the spell as available again, if it cannot be done through a Long Rest button?

Is this working as intended currently?
Hi MC,
Yes, its intended, because "recharge at the next dawn" does not necessarily coincide with a long rest.
Objects that are set to recharge on long rest don't appear to reset either. Like the Blessed Blade homebrew item I have created on this character https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/Madclergy/characters/470806

Bump
I seem to be seeing this same issue on several homebrew items set to recharge on Long Rest.

Seems like some unresolved custom item bugs?

Thank you for your reports, though as Filcat mentioned above this is not a bug.
Items have many variable ways of recharging, and can recharge variable amounts. This is not currently supported by the character sheet.

Since this is not a supported feature, I added a feature request. Please add your vote, if you'd like to see it. https://dndbeyond.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360034965154-Better-Homebrew-Magic-Item-Charge-Management
