The Sentinel Shield in the DMG PG 199 as written states "While holding this shield, you have advantage on initiative rolls and Wisdom (Perception) checks. The shield is emblazoned with a symbol of an eye." However in the compendium in DDB it has been given a +5 to perception checks and that isn't written anywhere in the DMG. Please make this correction to the compendium by removing this bonus. Thank you.
That sounds great in theory but you are forgetting passive checks. This would add + 5 to a passive passive perception roll and that's not what is written in the DMG. If you are saying it get a +5 why isn't that bonus also applied to initiative? So no that's not how this works. My solve was to recreate the item in a home brew so it is listed correctly but it is incorrect in the compendium of DDB.

You don't roll for passive perception checks, they're a fixed value on your sheet of 10 + perception modifier (wisdom + proficiency if applicable). If you have an item that grants advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks, such as the one mentioned here, you get a +5 on top of that fixed value (10 + wisdom + perception proficiency if applicable + 5).
That bonus would not be applied to initiative because initiative is not a passive ability, you always roll for it. Additionally the rule isn't specific to hiding, but any circumstance where a passive check would be called for.

Are you seeing this +5 to perception checks on passive perception by any chance? This is correct; as per the Basic Rules:
