Hello all, I'm trying to make a magic item (cloak specifically) that allows a player to cast the spell etherealness. I used the armor of etherealness as a base and was planning on just making it a wonderous item. As soon as I copy the armor it no longer displays the spell in the players spell list to cast. I tried this again with Mac-Fuirmidh cittern and the same thing happened. It does show in the player's spell list with the uncopied items though.
Not 100% sure it's a bug or not, but I searched a bit on google and the forums to no avail. Any help would be immensely appreciated.
I only have the 1 item though. Like, I copy a magic item as a homebrew and those spells no longer show up. Even if it is the only magic item I have equipped or in my character sheet.
Edit: I did just notice it is a Warlock spell and I'm equipping it on a Warlock. So maybe what you were talking about. Still doesn't explain the bard instrument not working once copied though.
I've just made a homebrew cloak by copying the plate armor of etherealness and it appears to be working. Are you attuning the items after equipping them?

On the subject of attunement, if you removed the attunement requirement from the cloak made as a copy of the armor, then it won't work - copying an (official?) magic item that requires attunement seems to carry over to the new item whether or not you remove the attunement requirement. I suggest you start from scratch but use the armor-copy cloak as a guide for howto set up the spell.

I'm trying again now just to confirm, but earlier I am almost positive even if I attuned to the item it wasn't showing the spells in the spell list. I was planning on removing attunement, so I will keep in mind making a new item from scratch. I'll be back as soon as the copies sync and I can throw them on my character.
Edit: For the time being I just threw a feat together to get the desired effect. So I have what I need until tomorrow.
Edit Edit: I was able to get a copied bard instrument to display spells, so I may have been messing up attunement (feel like an absolute fool). However, I don't see the spell etherealness on my list when using: armor of etherealness, a copy of armor of etherealness, or a blank magic item setup to give me that spell. I tested it on a druid / ranger as well, and only the original armor showed etherealness in the spell list. I'm assuming it maybe related to the first reply at this point.
Take a look at post 6, if you'd turned off the attunement requirement for the cloak. But yeah, the more recent stuff you're seeing is the "spell only from 1 magic item that gives it" issue.

I think it's that problem plus a syncing delay. The more I mess around with it the less consistent it is. So I think it's not showing the spell when it "thinks" I have 2 sources equipped. Even if it is only showing 1. Though even the regular armor of etherealness isn't giving my warlock the spell. It's giving it to everything else though. Oh well. Simple fix, I'll keep the feat I have and see if this gets fixed with the issue you are talking about.

There's a known issue going on where if you have different types of magic items that give the same spell, it only shows up on one of the items.

Hmm, might be different then. If you post the url to your character sheet then someone can take a look.

Also Thank you all for the help so far!

Thanks again everyone!
I figured it out. I had a potion of etherealness as a place holder... So I had 2 instances of the spell... Thank you all so much.
Edit: Interesting side note. The oil doesn't add the spell to your list, but still causes the issue of having two magic items with the same spell.
