Mainly cause I'm an idiot and I can't fully work it out myself. Do I have to buy a sourcebook AND buy a membership so my players can use the subclasses/races in them?
Someone in the campaign needs to have a master tier subscription in order for content purchased on DDB to be shared between people in the campaign. It doesn't have to be the same person, so person A can buy the PHB, the DM buys the DMG, and person C buys the subscription, and once they turn on campaign sharing, everyone gets to access all of that material. Also, subscriptions are set to auto-renew, but you can cancel the auto-renew and still have access to the benefits of a subscription for the length of time you purchased (so if you're only doing a one-shot, you can do a one-month subscription on Nov 18, cancel it Nov 19th, and still benefit from it until December 18).
Oh my god. That is embarrassing. Definitely won't be buying any digital books then, I'll stick to my physical copies and add them in manually as homebrew.
