I chose the dueling fighter class for my lv. 1 character, but even when I only have one melee weapon equipped like it says, my "+2 bonus to damage rolls" isn't added to my modifiers. Even when I equip a second weapon, none of the previous modifiers lessen or change, which tells me it was never added in the first place. Is there something I'm doing wrong, or do I have to manually add 2 to each of my damage rolls outside of dnd beyond?
It is adding the +2 to your Shortsword's damage roll. Normally it would just be +3 since that's your STR modifier, but it's added the +2 for a total of +5.
You're allowed to have more than one weapon equipped for purposes of seeing what your rolls are for different weapons, so the way to tell what it looks like when ineligible for the Dueling fighting style is to Customize the other weapon and check the box that says "Dual Wield".
