I have a good deal of the books in physical form, and I was wondering if there was some sort of code or way to unlock the online content with the books that I've already purchased. Having the books online would be really useful, but I'm definitely not willing to buy every book twice.
Long story short, you'd have to buy a digital copy. Trying to find a link to their official stance on it but from the information I recall, they don't intend to have any sort of proof of purchase system for the physical books that will offer any sort of discount for the digital ones, since they're completely different products (despite the content being the same) and the money for them goes to completely different parties it is unlikely that something like this will ever happen unless WoTC want's to wave their portion of the sales here if you provide proof of purchase for a physical book.
Two separate companies means two separate purchases sadly. I bought the Player's Handbook when they were first released for $20. Sadly I won't make any more purchases. Digital rulebooks are not the priority here. The D&D Beyond tool-set and it's subscription model is. The books are an add-on to the main product, which is the tool-set.
And that's fine. But sadly it's not what I need. The features that I would like are not even on the radar, which makes the product unsuitable for my needs, sadly.
