I will take it, if the gm doesn't notice, to bad so sad.
"Cheating on purpose is okay just because the feature isn't coded right" isn't a good look. Especially when the answer is literally to ignore the drop-down and just pick an extra spell for your spellbook instead.
What can i say at 20 we get some free spells, and bard gets power word kill on two targets, the world is not fair.
"Cheating on purpose is okay because I don't think the class is well balanced" is also not a great look, FYI.
It's not a great look? Good thing i have not cheated then. I am not in this league that WotC created, i suspect that is what you people are talking about.
Well, I know I wouldn't want to play with someone who deliberately breaks the rules hoping the DM won't notice. I suspect most other people wouldn't.
If by "this league that WotC created" you mean DDAL, then no, you're the only one who's mentioned that.
Still not fixed. Thank God for this thread because I was going nuts trying to figure out if I was "cheating" having evocation savant spells ready to cast right off the bat when it clearly says wizards only have so many prepared spells per day.
Still not fixed. I would really appreciate it if this bug was finally remedied, I don't like having to go back into the character manager to change those spells whenever I'm swapping out what I have prepared for the day.

Leave them blank and take the extra spell per level. It doesn't give the right number anyway. There should never have been a dropdown attached to the feature.
Just came across this thread after I noticed my Divination Savant spells were being treated as "always prepared" subclass spells in contrast to the rules. I'm using the work-around suggested above. But, yeah, still not fixed.
Thank you everyone who posted in this thread. Bug still here, I was confused, so it's good to see some reassurance that my understanding of how things *should* be working was correct.
Not so good to see the bug is still unfixed though.
It ISN'T fixable until they redo the entire site's backend. It's not just a cliche "code, click & fix".
Given the nature of this specific problem, it actually seems very unlikely that it's impossible to fix right now, and as far as I know they have not said that about this particular issue. All they need to do is just remove the spell selection from the feature entirely.
It's more likely that they haven't done anything about it because they're not prioritizing fixes to the old character builder that already have easy workarounds and don't stop anyone from doing anything.

Hard disagree. This is a "code, click & fix" because all they need to do is remove the dropdowns.
The players will dutifully add spells they are entitled to on level up anyway, and this is how all subsequent spell levels are already handled! The dropdowns add no value, since they do not function correctly, *and* they lead to user confusion! Why have these dropdowns not just been removed, that is blindingly simple?! Let me create a Pull Request! I'll get it done tonight! You can ship it on your next Release!
Ya they only need to remove the features drop down, and leave it as a word description, and when the same value to replaced with gold and a weekend at a Wizard library, its pretty sad. Thank god you can flag signature spells to show as attacks, it shows on the sheet if not in the spell list. But this is the world of wizards, the class that gets the least attention. If it was a pally error it would have been fixed yesterday.

Considering wizards are one of the most pandered-to classes in the game and 5.5e Paladin has had a bug since 2024 where 5e subclasses don't show their subclass spells that still isn't fixed despite the homebrew tools giving a very clear and easy solution that would work just as well on the dev side, I sincerely hope this is sarcasm.
Anyway, the Savant abilities just needing to nix the drop-down is something I've been saying from the start. It's so easy and would take all of 5 minutes, really, both issues I mentioned are inexcusable at this point.

Yes, very sarcastic. Nothing is getting fixed. In a badly managed waterfall environment, new features often get prioritized over fixing existing defects because reopening completed phases is treated as expensive or disruptive. Bugs then get pushed into the backlog and sometimes left for the next major rewrite.

Take the spells, no one will notice, come to the dark side.
