Have a PC playing echo knight and wanting to move to 2024 base class rules with his echo knight. See there are Cavalier, Rune Knight, Purple Dragon, and Cavalier as expanded rules options but no Echo Knight. Is this a bug or intentional?

Read the official bugs / support thread. ALL third-party content is not yet supported for the 2024 classes but they're working with the partners to move them forward.
"Just as a note - you’ll note that many subclasses that have been published by our various Partners do not appear for the 2024 classes. We’re working with them to update their content for the new rules, but do not have an ETA for those releases."

Thank you! I contacted customer service and they were no help whatsoever. I felt bad to contact them but I searched and couldn't find an answer.
Echo Knight isn't partner content though. It's from an official 5e subclass.
It's from a Critical Role book. While printed by WotC, it was still always considered a partnership, not WotC's content. Same with Dunamancy wizard subclasses.
Still no partnered content after all of this time? It's June 2025 now.
A selection of partnered content supports 2024 rules, and a subsection of that supports both. It's not at WotC/DDBs discretion, but the IP owner which in the case of the Echo Knight is Critical Role/Darrington Press. Best advice would be to reach out to them and ask about the timeline on getting approved 2024 conversions and/or versions of their content.
Considering that it is all supposed to be backwards compatible, from what I understand, I would think I could still choose the subclass regardless of 2024 or 2014.

Backward compatibility is at the discretion of the people who actually own the content. D&D Beyond legally doesn't get to make that decision for them.

The promise of backwards compatibility was made by Wizards of the Coast about their own IP, it wasn't a promise made for or about the IPs of others. Some 3PP or partners may not want their content to be compatible with 2024 rules for whatever reason.
I would assume at this point that we won't be seeing some of these partnered subclasses come to 2024 version. I am saying that because setting it up to be useable with new rules would require little to no changes. If it hasn't been done by now then I assume it's because, whatever their reasoning, the partnered companies have decided that they do not want to.
I understand that they haven't managed to adapt the 3pp subclasses to the 2024 rules yet. But I can't even make a 2014 echo knight, and my players can't even choose a bunch of subclasses that we paid for. How can we switch beyond so we can make 2014 characters? I've been a master tier user for years. I've paid the company a lot. I just want to use what I've been using.

All you need to do to make a 2014 Echo Knight is select the 2014 version of the Fighter class when you're picking your class. You might need to scroll down to find it; the 2014 ones are in a separate section below the 2024 ones.
All the subclasses you paid for are still there; nothing's been removed.
Why exactly is Explorer's Guide to Wildemount considered partnered content when Acquisitions Incorporated isn't? And I'm pretty sure the book was included in the dndbeyond sourcebook bundle back when I purchased that one.
Unfortunately I don't think anyone here has any visibility into the details of the contracts Wizards of the Coast has made with other companies in this area.

Unfortunately, this is not true. Third-party content is not visible, only the xanathar and tasha options. And yes, I turned on the 2014, critical role, etc. switches. Feel free to try, you will see that they are not selectable.

It is true, as you can see:
1. Ensure that "2014 Core Rules" is enabled (disabling all other sources is optional)
2. Ensure that under Partnered Content, Critical Role is enabled (again, disabling all other partnered content is purely optional)
3. Make sure you're selecting the Fighter with the source tag of "Basic Rules (2014)"
4. Set your character to level 3 so their Martial Archetype is available
5. Expand the Martial Archetype option and select the dropdown. Under the Critical Role header at the bottom, you'll see the Echo Knight and Gunslinger. Select Echo Knight

So, if I play the tabletop version I can make an echo knight using 2024 rules, but for some very odd reason this choice is not given to me using the convenience of D&D Beyond. It seams strange to remove those items from the list of choices when I have 2014 checked along side 2024. I do not see a legal reason for it. Just populate it into the list. Seems simple to me.
