The free version of the new edition doesn’t grant you access to protection which is in the new PHB
even if you own the 2014 PHB which has protection for the Paladin, you can’t access it in a new dndbeyond 2024 “core” character unless you have purchased the new book or it’s shared with you via a campaign and someone else’s subscription & purchase

As above - You cannot pick protection as a fighting style (definitely as Paladin, not checked other classes) in the 2024 rules.
You can add it as a feat manually, but this leaves the drop-down unselected and messes with the number of feats you should have.
It's showing up fine for me — can you show what you see in this dropdown? That might help diagnose the problem.
