I run D&D5e to teach new players and get them into the hobby. I previously used D&DBeyond solely to make the character creation process easier (and legal) for them.
However, navigating spell selection has become a confusing headache. Not only do new players have to wrap their heads around learning all their spell options, they have to navigate through the "legacy" and 2024 edition content.
I toggled off the "expanded rules" and these spells and classes still exist on their character sheets. I have to double check everything they do because of how confusing this is.
To note: Expanded Rules covers non-core books (such as Xanathar's, Tasha's, Fizban's, any M:tG content, etc). Doesn't fix your problem, but hopefully helps you understand the usage better.
