Half-Orc Race Features (Ability Score) not being added automatically.

I am playing a half-orc barbarian with a soldier background (2014 legacy version).

I get ability score increases from both soldiers and half-orcs, but for some reason, my race feature ability bonus isn't being added automatically. Do I have to manually override this, or did I do something wrong?

For example, for Strength, I rolled 16. I chose +2 to strength via the soldier background BUT there are no race bonus features. Am I wrong about the ability bonuses stacking? Or should I actually have 18 for strength right now.

I tried doing a similar thing and changed my race to Goliath and the race bonuses there don't exist. Is it because of the 2024 version that these options don't exist anymore?
