So I was playing around with a couple of different melee warlock builds and noticed the character I created with the archfey patron has access to great weapon master feat that includes hew so I could attack again on a crit. I then made a hexblade warlock, but it only had access to great weapon fighting under the 2024 rules which doesn’t include hew. Is this a bug or something intended that I missed?
Great Weapon Fighting and Great Weapon Master are two different things. Great Weapon Master is a general feat, while Great Weapon Fighting is a fighting style feat.
Both the 2014 and 2024 versions of Great Weapon Master include the ability to make an attack as a bonus action after a kill or a critical hit with a melee weapon. The 2024 version names this ability "Hew"; the 2014 version includes the same ability but doesn't give it a specific name.
The 2024 version has a prerequisite of your Strength score being at least 13, while the 2014 one does not. This may be why you're not seeing it.
Great Weapon Fighting is a fighting style feat and is only available if you have a Fighting Style feature from your class. The Warlock class doesn't have such a feature, so you'd only be able to take Great Weapon Fighting if you were a multiclass character that also had levels in another class (e.g. Fighter) that did. Neither version of it includes the same "Hew" ability from Great Weapon Master.
Looks like the bug was that the archfey version let me pick it even though my strength was too low, where as the hexblade didn’t let me pick it until I put my strength to 13
I’m not able to see Great Weapon Master for either subclass at level 3, or at levels 4+ with a STR under 13. I only see it when both prerequisites are met, as expected.
Great Weapon Fighting, however, shouldn’t be showing in any of these scenarios, so that one looks like a bug.
