Booming Blade is included in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, but it is not on the Bard spell list, so it won't show up for the character you're describing.
It is on the lists for the Artificer, Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard classes.
You may be right that Acolyte should not do it, but both Acolyte and Sage gives access to the Booming Blade cantrip (Magic initiate).
Both those backgrounds give you the Magic Initiate feat, but they specify which spell list you get with it. Sage gives you the Wizard list, which would include Booming Blade; Acolyte gives you the Cleric list, which does not.
So, if you take Acolyte, it definitely should not give you access to that spell. It doesn't when I do that on my character.
Other ways to get it would include:
Taking a third level of Fighter and choosing the Eldritch Knight subclass (which grants some Wizard cantrips)
Choosing Elf for your species and selecting the High Elf lineage option (which grants a Wizard cantrip)
Either my character is somehow bugged, or there's something else at play in my case. I have the Acolyte background selected and under Bard -> Spells I have Booming Blade available.
Thanks for also providing other ways to get Booming Blade.

I'm building a Fighter 2/Bard 4, and in the spells section (of the bard) 'Booming Blade' does not show up as a cantrip.
AFAIK it should be in Tasha's (which I own). Any ideas what is going on?

Thank you for clarifying this.
I 'fixed it' by choosing Acolyte under Background.
I don’t think that would (or should) do it, but you could gain access to it via the Sage background.

Yes, that totally makes sense.
