I have been DMing and running campaigns for many years using DnD beyond. The best part of this is that my friends and new players can make a free account and share in the content that I have paid my own money for. I have been hearing that DnD Beyond is removing the ability to share content as a DM to free accounts? ergo everyone will have to pay a subscription fee to even use any of the content I have already paid for. I want to know if this is just gossip or is this true.
Question(s)
#1. Are you going to have to pay for a subscription to use DM owned content?
#2. As a DM if I stop paying for a subscription will I lose my content I have already paid for?
No and no. Your group can share their purchased books the same way they always have.
The only thing that's "different" from before is the subscription's new D&D Beyond Drops content, which is currently accessible only to active subscribers. Subscriber content has always been available only to active subscribers, though, so even that isn't really a change; what did change is the type of content being offered there.
Hello! Brian Perry, executive producer on D&D Beyond here. I just wanted to jump in to say we have no plans to change the way in which you access your D&D Beyond content.
In fact, the team has really taken to heart all of the great feedback on how to improve D&D Beyond Drops. Primarily, how people without a subscription can get it and how Master Tier subscribers can share it with their tables. We are actively working on solutions to these now. More to come soon!
If this is true then PR needs to come out with a public statement cause I play in a pretty big shop and these videos have over 117k views. Not everyone is going to come to the forums and ask like I did. I really like DnD Beyond, it make my job so much easier as a DM. I have people threatening to leave the party because of these allegations and telling new players "don't join him he supports Hasbro and WOTc, They are destroying DnD." I mean I can show this post to everyone and hopefully that is enough. (I doubt it sadly). Is there going to be any attempt to make a public statement (not in support or on the Forums)?
Why is some "random" Youtuber not this issue though? Why does WotTC PR need to step in and explain things when a person on the internet says completely unsupported claims like truth?

A lie can circle the earth before the truth puts it's shoes on.
The world is currently built for outrage mining, so it's more that people need to change their mindset and stop listening to these doomsayers who get paid to say doom, and actually find out the real situation. This applies to almost everything in the world at this point.

For the official word on it, though:

Welcome to 2026
The average person can't pass a DC8 wisdom Save
They believe everything a content creator has to say without checking the validity of their claims.
