I'm experiencing an issue with homebrew magic item modifiers. I created a homebrew magic item intended to grant:
+1 to Spell Attacks
+1 to Spell Save DC
The modifiers are configured as:
Modifier Type: Bonus
Modifier Subtype: Spell Attacks
Fixed Value: 1
and
Modifier Type: Bonus
Modifier Subtype: Spell Save DC
Fixed Value: 1
However, when the item is attuned on my Sorcerer character, the item always grants +4 to both Spell Attacks and Spell Save DC instead of using the fixed value entered.
I tested multiple fixed values (0, 1, 7) and all three resulted in the exact same outcome:
+4 Spell Attack
+4 Spell Save DC
If the Fixed Value field is left blank, then attuning to the item causes no modifier changes at all.
Troubleshooting steps already attempted:
Recreated the item completely from scratch
Used Wondrous Item Magic Item Type
Avoided copying/duplicating old items
Removed all modifiers except the two listed above
Tested with a simplified item setup
Re-added the item to the character
Re-attuned the item
Refreshed the character sheet
The issue still persists.
This appears to be causing the modifier to ignore the entered fixed value entirely and instead apply a static +4 bonus.
Please let me know if this is a known issue or if additional information/screenshots are needed.
Ignoring that refreshes can take time, but since you are testing with a sorcerer, did you try Modified Subtype "Sorcerer Spell Attacks" and "Sorcerer Spell Save DC"?
