Hello. I've created this thread because of a problem I've encountered recently while trying to create a character.
I'll try to be concise, but basically I was trying to build a Ranger 1/Hexblade warlock 19 (classes from 5.5, Hexblade from Tasha) with the Ruined background and using the Ranger of the North race (from the lord of the rings content).
The problem is that when applying the Custom origin languages option to replace Westron and Sindarin as the race's base known languages, the Common language does not appear as an option. I've searched online and some say that Is a problem of D&D Beyond hardcoding the languages, but I don't think so since it didn't happen to me before today, and other characters could select Common.
It's hard to say for sure without being able to see the character itself, but it's more likely that Common isn't available as a choice because the character already has it from another source. Under 5.5e rules, all characters get the Common language and two others of their choice automatically; species options don't provide specific languages anymore in 5.5e. If you look at the Languages section on the character sheet itself, does it list Common? If so, then this is why.
If not, you can just add Common as a custom language by clicking on the little gear icon in that section of the character sheet.
Last I've checked, Common wasn't among the languages on the sheet, so I guess I'll have to manually add It.
I just find odd that, even if the 5.5 rules say that everyone gets common by default, it doesn't appear as an option for species like the Ranger of the North, which cannot have it unless you specifically use the Custom origin languages.
In any case, thanks for your help
