Hey there fellow gamers! I am running a game in which I gave a character the Book of Exalted Deeds.
How do I apply the benefits of this artifact to the character in Dnd Beyond as they read the book? As far as the benefits go, the +2 increase to Wisdom seems to be the only thing that applied automatically once attuned.
Do I have to custom create the benefits, and if so how? Or is there something I have yet to figure out on Beyond in regards to the artifact?
You can apply them as modifiers by making a feat and have the player add the feat.
The reason the item doesn't do this is because the artifact benefits are not set - DMs will usually randomise which properties affect the player or choose them specifically based on campaign. You will note in the DMG artifacts are not listed with specific major/minor properties, just how many they get. The properties usually being given as a bigger list to choose from.

I am aware of the random minor/major properties. However the item itself gives specific things: Halo, Enlightened Magic. Would I need to do as you say for these as well? Make a feat? Also...You can create custom feats??
My apologies I thought you were referring to the properties.
Increased Wisdom : implemented by the item, which you confirmed.
Enlightened Magic: cannot be implemented by the builder and there is not a need to do so. The player can see the spells on their character sheet and click on a level one higher than they intend to cast at. The spell's effects, if able to be increased in power, will show there in blue text so the player can just use those details when making rolls, advising you of it, etc, but to cast and record it on the sheet they just click the level below and click cast.
For e.g. if your player wishes to cast Cure Wounds (which at first level is 1d8 + Spellcasting Ability Modifier for healing) they can click on the "2nd" tab and see the effects of the spell at one level higher (which is 2d8 + Spellcasting Ability Modifier). They would therefore roll the 2d8 + Spellcasting Ability Modifier but can then click back onto the "1st" tab and click the cast button.
Halo: No need to be implemented to be implemented by the builder. You can use the effect whenever you want, so the player can just note whether it is on or not and if so just roll 2d20 instead of 1d20 for the advantage when making a Charisma check. The character sheet doesn't have an in-built dice roller, so you have to do this manually anyway. The character sheet does have a Notes section.
So, the only thing the builder can actually implement is the wisdom and it does that. The rest is not something the character sheet should be doing - it's up to the player, not the sheet.

Yup. You can also copy an existing feat and modify it - this is often easier than starting from scratch if there's a feat with something similar you just want to tweak. Custom feats can do a lot of things and useful for all sorts.
You can view feats created by others by going to Character >> Feats >> Homebrew. Or you can make your own by going to Character >> Feats >> Create.
The builder will limit adding feats to appropriate levels in line with the PHB rules. However, on the character sheet you may add any feat you wish at any time by going to the Features and Traits section, choosing Feats and clicking Manage Feats. It will open a sidebar listing the official feats you have access to plus any homebrew you may have in your collection or have made - just click Add. If the feat has options to select it will show a blue ! icon after adding and you can click the down-arrow to the right of it to see the drop-down boxes and select the options.
