When using a monk, if I equip a weapon that I am proficient with but is not a monk weapon, it still applies the martial arts damage. For instance, weapons such as a Greatclub or a Light Crossbow gain the martial arts feature despite them not being monk weapons.
The PHP states the following under the Martial Arts feature regarding what is considered a monk weapon:
At 1st level, your practice of martial arts gives you mastery of combat styles that use unarmed strikes and monk weapons, which are shortswords and any simple melee weapons that don’t have the two-handed or heavy property.
Below are two pictures showing the effect in action. The first one I am wearing Plate armor as to disable the Martial Arts feature.
Without Martial Arts:
With Martial Arts:
As you can see, most weapons I tested with get the Martial Arts feature. The following weapons should not qualify for the feature:
Crossbow, Light
It is Two-Handed
Is ranged
Greatclub
It is Two-Handed
Longsword
Is a martial weapon.
EDIT: It turned out the Monk I had randomly generated was a Path of the Kensei, and when I changed that to Open Hand, Light Crossbow and Longsword fixed themselves, but the Greatclub is still considered a Monk Weapon.
The Greatclub might still be there as a monk weapon for Kensei, since it doesn't break the Kensei restrictions of what can be a Monk weapon ( heavy and special).

What subclass did you choose?
It was Path of the Kensei, but I changed to Open Hand and the issue still persists for the Greatclub.
Just had a player point this out, it is a bug(!) thank you!

The original issue that the OP presented was indeed a bug that the team has now fixed!
