I wanted to report a bug that a player in my campaign ran into while rolling a replacement character. 

Today he made a Bard Dragonborn with Simic Scientist background. Whilst making the character he noticed that he didn't get an option to pick the Arcana skill from either his background (choose any 2 skills) or his class (Bard: choose any 3 skills.) When he went to complete the character at level 1 it had both Arcana and Medicine as skill along with the 5 skills from class and background.

Can anyone explain the cause of this? Any help is welcome.

Info: The campaign has sharing on, so the Bard player has access to all the books. We went ahead and leveled the PC to 9. Let me know if more info is needed.

Usually, when you can't pick a skill proficiency is because you already have it.

I just checked and confirmed that simic scientist background is bugged. It lets you choose any 2 skills in addition to granting you Arcana and Medicine even if no skills are gained from anywhere else.

Thanks for figuring out that the Simic Scientist was bugged. I can't believe I didn't try different background to check this. Well done.

This was a problem with the data attached to the background. It should be fixed now!

You might still see the select boxes if you have selected skills other than the default ones (Arcana, Medicine) that come with the background. You can easily correct these to the proper skills, or if you get those skills from somewhere else, you'll still have the option to select from other skills, as it works with other backgrounds.
