I recently found this website and at first glance it seems great. As I delved deeper I noticed a lot of missing core content in the character creation process such as backgrounds and class archetypes that are in the player's handbook. For example the sorcerer only allows me to choose between draconic bloodline or giant soul from UA. Wild magic is missing completely. Too many backgrounds are missing for me to list them all.
The features you are referring to are not part of the D&D 5th edition SRD and will need to be unlocked from the marketplace before you can use it on D&D Beyond.
You may also purchase individual races, subclasses, feats & magic items from the marketplace - should you later wish to purchase the sourcebook that they came from, any such individual purchases are fully discounted from the price of the sourcebook.
You are also welcome to create your own content using the D&D Beyond homebrew tools. If you have any troubles with the system, the community can be of great help in learning the ropes. :)
I did not realize that the SRD did not include everything from the player's handbook. That being said the first character I created had access to many more background options than the most recent one I created. Is there a way to add books to my available content if I have a hard copy without repurchasing them through the marketplace?
At this time, all purchases on D&D Beyond are for content on D&D Beyond only. Unfortunately, there is not a way to unlock the digital content if you have purchased the books.
Helpful options may be:
1) To only individually purchase the items you need, when you need them. For example, if you would like to make a Wild Magic Sorcerer you can buy just that subclass from the marketplace. Whatever you spend on an individual purchase from a book reduces the total cost, as well, so you can chip away over time.
2) To add content to your private homebrew collection on the site yourself, using the physical books you own as your guide.
We realize and understand the concerns over re-purchasing content, but the material in D&D Beyond is in a different format and platform.

Could it be that your first character was in a campaign with content sharing or shared homebrew? There are also possibly playtest background (not sure how much requires purchase) that can be toggled in the character settings (first page of builder).
Same thing here. Not all backgrounds are available as well. I don't understand. Are these not included in the PHB 2024? Character creation only lists Acolyte, Criminal, Sage, and Soldier as background choices. I'm pretty sure this is a tech issue.

Looks like you're on the Free Rules for creation. If you own the book, make sure your Entitlements are synced first. If that doesn't fix it, try signing out and signing back in. Alternately, if you're in a campaign of someone who owns the book, make sure they're on Master Tier for their subscription and sharing the book in the campaign. If they are, signing out and back in can still help in some cases. That's fixed the issue for the majority of people affected when we first saw this arise with the early release.
I am trying to make a new Path of the World Tree Barbarian. This sub-class does not appear in my character generator.
I have purchased the 2024 PHB (actually the entire new content package). I have the physical copy in my possession. It is listed in my content page. The PHB has been linked to my campaign. dndbeyond shows my entitlements are synced. I have logged out/in. I still only get two of the four subclasses (Berserker and Totem Warrior) in my character generator.
I would appreciate any thoughts and suggestions.

Hello Bastion2019!
D&D Beyond can be used for free and contains information from the following "free to use" sources published by Wizards of the Coast: D&D 5th edition SRD, D&D 5th edition Basic Rules, and Elemental Evil Companion.
You are also welcome to create your own content using the D&D Beyond homebrew tools. If you have any troubles with the system, the community can be of great help in learning the ropes. :)
Hope that helps!
