This is how 5e calculates spell slots when you have more than one spell-casting class.

I agree it's a bit confusing. The bottom line is that although you have 3rd level slots, you can't use them to cast 3rd-level spells until your character reaches a level that allows that. (You can use them to cast 1st- and 2nd-level spells though.)

I don't really understand the glitch or if I'm doing something wrong. It looks to me that nothing would give the character additonal slots
