I have searched up and down trying to determine HOW to select a personal homebrew subclass. For the life of me, I have no idea how to set it. Even when I copy an existing class as a template, rename it, and retain all the features of that bass class... it STILL doesn't show up any where I look at an option to select.
Are free account allowed to create their own homebrew class or not? If so, how on earth so I set it?!
Perhaps I am not understanding a subclass vs class because it seems that character creation ONLY allows me to pick base classes.
A free account can create subclasses, yes! Homebrew classes are not a function of D&D Beyond yet.
Two things:
1) Make sure you've turned homebrew "On" in the settings page, which is the first page of the character builder.
2) Check what level the class you've selected gets to choose their subclass. Some classes get their subclass at level 3, some at 2, and some at 1. Depending on what class you chose to make a subclass for, the level at which you can choose your subclass will vary.
Goodness! After hours, I just figured it out and feel so silly. I had already done 1 & 2 as you said because a million people before me had the issue. What I didn't realize was that sorcerous origin == subclass!
sighs 🤦♂️
I suppose I will leave this here in the event that another person is as silly as me.
i cant make a homebrew subclass it just gives me error 500 help
Read any of the numerous existing threads on the subject before bumping a 6-year-old unrelated thread. This is a known current bug and can be circumvented by copying existing subclasses and editing them. (Some work better than others.)

Hello AmalFiHaq,

I hope that helps!
