I was researching some low level creatures and came across the Sacred Statue with a CR 0 rating but has the ability to attack twice per round for 6D12+4 damage and pops a CR 12 creature out of it if destroyed. Seems a touch high for a CR 0 creature.

It is because it is possessed by an eidolon. WotC probably didnt want to imply that you get twice the exp from defeating 1 monster.
Sacred statue even says that it isn't a creature when not possessed.
