As you continue to read the description of the Hammer of Thunderbolts, you will see the following text:
Giant's Bane (Requires Attunement). You must...
At this time D&D Beyond does not have a method to require only certain effects of an item to require attunement, only the item itself. The text you're reading is present on the individual item, which pulls the display information from the mechanics behind it that help it work in the character sheet. In the Compendium sections of D&D Beyond where the item is present, you can see this information faithfully reproduced! For example, here in the Basic Rules.
To grant the effects of "Giant's Bane" on the item, one will need to attune to it.
I was completely unaware that in some cases D&D Beyond doesn't display the actual text of the books as published by Wizards of the Coast. I see now that the first listing is "Magic Items" and there are two more listings for "DMG" and "Basic Rules".
I'll be more careful moving forward to use the actual text from the manuals in my online discussions.
