Is there a way that you can add an item to a campaign character's inventory without them knowing what it is? ie. Blue bubbling potion -> potion of heroism
Ah, so I guess you would create a custom item called "Blue Bubbling Potion" and then when they discover what it is, you swap it out for a Potion of Heroism. It's unfortunate, since it requires me to remember 2-3 sessions later what that potion was. Good idea though. That should work.
What I do is give them a custom item that might be "Blue Bubbling Potion" and then ask them to add to the description some kind of nondescript reference like "Y245" or "Yellow Monkey Dishwasher". I then write in my DM notes "Y245/Yellow Monkey Dishwasher = potion of invisibility worth 1,500gp"

Yeah, you can add custom items under Manage Inventory from a character sheet.
