I'm playing an Aarakocra cleric for a campaign I'm in and I chose Tempest Domain because the party was trying to convince me that in-combat healing is never useful and Life Domain would be a waste. Now I'm noticing that when I mess with the Tempest build, the Stormborn feature lowers my fly speed from 50ft to 25ft (to match the Aarakocra walking speed). I haven't found any rulings/sage advice/explanations for if this is what should happen, or if the Stormborn fly speed should just be an extra option and I can choose to use the 50ft fly speed instead. I'm aware DDB has it's limits, but if it were an added optional fly speed the sheet would typically choose the more optimal option for me, wouldn't it? Like it does with AC calculation and such. Instead I'm only seeing the 25ft fly speed. If anyone could clarify I'd greatly appreciate it.
It does not override the natural fly speed you have as an Aarakocra. Can you link your character sheet or screenshot? You can override it back to 50ft on your sheet if need be.
You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
Just reproduced myself, and it's definitely a bug. You're not wearing medium or heavy armor, so you're fulfilling the requirements of your Aarakocra fly speed. No features gained by a character are ever meant to override a superior version of an existing feature. Going from level 16 to 17 does not make you fly slower than you already could.
[edit] Could a mod push this to the bug report sub-forum?

Further, it seems that the Aarakocra fly speed is not being affected by the type of armor being worn. Putting on Plate does not appear to reduce or remove the fly speed displayed, but it does remove speed bonuses from levels in Monk. Maybe the root is related to that? Flag not being triggered?

Wearing armor doesn't trigger a lot of things it is supposed to. Your speed isn't lowered by not meeting STR requirements or going over carrying capacity (except variant encumberance). It is weird.

Sure, here's the link: https://ddb.ac/characters/18396914/KOl7xS
And I know you can override the speeds manually, I just didn't want to do so if the change was correct.

This is not the first time I have seen a fly speed reduced by a class feature bug (I think the other was a sorcerer subclass).

Thank you for your report! I will raise a ticket for this bug.
