I like to have all my combat-relevant spells displayed on the Attacks list for quick reference, so I've gone to my Spells and, for any that weren't already listed under Attacks, marked each of them as "Display as Attack" in the Customize area for the spell.
Oddly, "Booming Blade" does not have the "Display as Attack" option. This is strange to me as Booming Blade is one that I particularly want to see on my Attacks list. I realize that the initial damage done as an Attack is simply the standard melee weapon damage, but I still need to be able to identify quickly that I've got that available to me.
Other spells like "Charm Person" and "False Life" -- which are clearly not attacks, but nevertheless useful in a combat scenario -- do have the option available (and I find it very convenient!); so why does Booming Blade specifically not have the option?
If you have Booming Blade on your character - you should notice that any weapon you've got equipped will have Booming Blade information listed in their notes in the actions section. I assume because of that - putting the spell onto the actions as an attack is superfluous.
I wish it would add up the values without the additional booming damage. Kinda feels like it should be rolled at the time of movement when the damage is done. I shall keep ignoring it!
