I just bought the PHB, DMG, MM and CoS. While the global search is returning items and monsters as expected, compendium content does not seem to be searchable, I can only get results for basic rules.
I assume that paying content is still being indexed =]
Yeah, this is kinda important. It doesn't really help to have the entire DMG in digital format if I can't search for "Brown Mold" and instead have to look under chapter 5 environmental hazards.
Yes, I just posted about this in the Global Search thread. This is bad for two reasons:
One, the basic rules/SRD, or separate sections you have for things like classes, feats, etc. that are getting "hit" with the search, may be missing info that's specific to the core rulebooks.
Two, these results pages have ads on them, and if we've paid for the core books, we shouldn't be seeing ads on our results that give information that's in what we've purchased.
Gotta be a glitch, here's the text from purchasing the entire book: "This purchase unlocks the entire contents of the book version for use with D&D Beyond, including the adventure in digital format in the game compendium and access to all the adventure’s options in the searchable listings, character builder, and digital sheet."
Yeah, I figured they'd fix it soon. I wanted to avoid seeing those annoying ads, but really don't want to spend $3 a month for it (I don't have too much use for others' homebrew, and probably won't have more than six characters for some time).
They should also fix that clicking on "Compendium" from the home page goes to the Basic Rules. That should really go to a Table of Contents type page which allows us to pick from all the possibilities (rules and adventures).
Keep in mind that browser caches will update as new permissions associate with accounts.

We figured it out. When searching for magic items in the equipment section, proficiency is checked by default, which is why it wasn't showing up for his character.
It still isn't working 100% correctly. For example, I searched for "two weapon", and it gives me hits in the combat section of the Basic Rules, but not the PHB.
They really need an option if you purchase the core 3 books to omit basic rules from results just to avoid duplicates.
Totally agree. I've just bought the PHB for now so I'd see how D&D Beyond handles purchased content before going wild spending, and the Global Search really isn't working right because of this. It should not be showing me any results from Basic Rules that the PHB covers. I really thought the Global Search was good in beta, but now that it's contending with paid content, it's clear that it's a mess.
Furthermore, since I own the PHB, if I go to the Races, Classes, etc. sections via the "Characters" menu, those entries should not be from the Basic Rules either. I own most of that content, so I don't want to see ads on those pages (which I am, because you're showing me the Basic Rules versions of those sections).
EDIT: oddly enough, if I go to the Characters - Classes section, then pick one, it shows me all the features of the classes (eg Eldritch Knight for Fighter at https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/classes/fighter), even though all aren't in the Basic Rules. So why on the previous menu page that shows all the classes does it say it's from Basic Rules, and why on the aforementioned page, even though it's showing me non Basic Rules stuff, is it showing me an ad?
This is a bit of mess that occurred because we weren't allowed to test anything but the Basic Rules content.
EDIT 2: I just discovered that the hyperlinks within the PHB are also taking me to the Basic Rules. One of many examples: In Class Features under Barbarian, the hyperlinks for Animal Handling, Athletics, etc, under Class Features - Skills, all hyperlink to the Basic Rules.
This is going to take you guys a lot of time, but it has to fixed.
Pretty much. What am I paying for, exactly, if so many hyperlinks in the PHB take me to stuff everyone gets for free? And I'm stuck looking at the ads because of it? The whole idea of the ads is to have the non-paying folks see them, not people like me!
I was really hoping to like what I see, so I can buy the MM and DMG before the sale ends, but right now it's clear the product wasn't ready for release.

Same issue. Part of why I bought into DnD Beyond was for this feature...
Can someone confirm that this will be searchable very soon? If I can't global search purchased content, I'll be needing a refund...

Works for me now!

Not fixed for my players though. If I search for sunblade for example, it shows up for my character. If my player search for it, it doesn't show up.

Ouch. That is pretty bad.
