After making a homebrew spell with damage modifiers and assigning it to a character, the spell correctly shows up in the sidebar. (after clicking it in the spell list) However, if you add "At Higher Levels" to this (tested with both Spell Scale and Spell Level), and increase the Spell Level on the sidebar, it doesn't update the damage values.
Just changed the "At Higher Level" to be an "Additional Count" of 2d6, but it still does not update the sidebar with this information.
The Spell Level is exactly what I'm looking for, as it's a one-time upgrade, which should not be repeated at level 3 or higher. A one-time upgrade once cast at level 2 (or higher)
After/before making changes, did you remove the spell from your character sheet? Changing a homebrew spell will not change that spell if it is in use on a character's sheet. You'll want to remove the spell from the spellbook, refresh the sheet, and then add the spell back. Let me know if that helps.
If it doesn't, please provide a link to the affected homebrew. Myself or another forum moderator will be able to take a look.

Hi all,

Have you tried changing the dice roll to a higher value?
Hello! The "Spell Level" type of scaling allows you to change the value to an exact amount based on the level entered.
It sounds like what you may be looking for is "Spell Scale", which will change the value by the amount per level.
