Is there a way to give a homebrew item a unique weight, unique properties, unique damage type from its skinned base so that it translates into the character sheet?
example: I am creating an Elven Longsword from a base Longsword...how do I adjust the weight to reflect its unique light nature so that my equipment weight in my character sheet is correct? How do I give it the Finesse property so my character sheet inventory will recognize the property?
WOW!!!!!! D&D Beyond support is a DELIGHT!! THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU.
Here are some helpful tips from them regarding my issue:
"Thanks for reaching out to us! All of that information is based upon the base weapon - if you select "Longsword" as the base weapon for the magic item, then the magic item has all of the properties of a Longsword (weight, damage dice etc) - this is due to the design of 5th edition D&D, where it is recommended that, for balance reasons, any new weapons just pick an existing weapon and rename it.
Additionally, There are two suggestions for homebrew mundane items:
The player can add them to their character manually, by selecting MORE | POSSESSIONS under the EQUIPMENT section of the character sheet. This allows the to enter free text for any items. Note - the DM of a campaign can also add items to player character sheets in this manner.
Create the item using the homebrew system and set the RARITY to VARIES, which will mean it is coloured black, in the same way that mundane items are."
Not the mechanic I was 100% hoping for, but VERY much appreciated and very helpful.
