This is getting really bad, when I share my content with friends joining my campaign, they randomly get or don't get the shared content.
Even the base Players Handbook, they can't see all the classes and backgrounds, even though they are using the character that is part of the campaign with content sharing.
Two of my friends are now annoyed with this software and ready to give up on it. :(
Okay I think I figured it out. Two different things happened, first make sure content sharing is on for all campaigns you are a part of if you own content. Mine got switched off somehow.
Second, make sure your players follow the campaign link to setup their character. Even if you have access to a book doesn't mean it's associated with that character and so it won't show those options till you "link" it using that campaign url
I just discovered this as well. I'm the DM and hosting the campaign, so I had no reason to use the join campaign link. But a player made something from volos and I could edit it and I noticed none of my test Characters showed up in the campaign so I decided to use the join link and it let me make a new one, tied to the campaign, with volos. This is super unintuitive and not at all obvious. Now I have to figure out how to use monsters from volos in that campaign...
It is probable that your player's browser has the link to your content cached, which can be fixed fairly easily, by clearing their browser's cache.
If this is not something that they are familiar with, theycan find useful guides here on how to do this for most current browsers.
If, after clearing your browser cache, you are still unable to access content that you have purchased, please contact the support team, who will be able to assist you further.
That is correct. It's a cached redirect that the user's browser is holding on to. If they clear their browser cache it will fix the issue. We're also deploying a change on our side to make tell browsers not to cache the redirect. That code change will be out shortly, but will help mostly with new users. Users who have already visited the pages, will have the cached redirect and need to clear their browser cache.
I'm not sure if this is meant to fix it, but it also looks like going to the direct link may actually fix the redirect as well. I was still getting redirected to the marketplace when I clicked on volos in the compendium, but I went to /rules/vgtm and it loaded up volos. Now when I click on volos in the compendium, I still go to /rules/vgtm instead of the marketplace for it. Going to /rules/dmg (which I don't own) redirects me to the marketplace still. I'm not a tech guy but it seems like it would solve a lot of issues if people always went to the correct place in the compendium (/rules/vgtm for example) and were only redirected if they don't have access, like in my case of /rules/dmg still redirecting me to buy the book.
I think that is an issue as well, but the most important part is the user must start creating a character with the campaign link before anything shows up.
I think many users are following the link, then getting distracted or using the menus at the top, and then they don't have the content and are confused.
It doesn't help that the character builder doesn't explain it at all or have any help info on what to do if you don't see the choices you expect to see.
So... 3/1/2019, still having this issue apparently.
Cleared cache completely. Relogged in via twitch, etc.
Joined campaign, went to create character, no content other than the free stuff is there. Just to be sure, saved that, went back in through the campaign to 'create unassigned character' and still no content.

Does the DM have content sharing enabled in that campaign? You can confirm this by going to the "My Campaigns" page and seeing if it has the following on the campaign in question ("Content Sharing enabled by...")
If that does appear, can you confirm that the DM, or another player in the campaign, owns the content in question?
Follow up - Yes, he did have content sharing turned on, but for some reason he just had to re-share it, I guess. It ended up being fixed when he did that.
2023 and I'm still having this problem. And I'm just making a character for myself, it's not part of someone's hosted campaign. I still don't see content that I bought myself, such as Path of Wild Magic or the Smuggler Background. There is no place to purchase, yet they' won't appear in my character builder.

Confirmed. I have players reporting that they cannot see backgrounds from the PHB even though I have purchased it.

I'm having an issue with this as well. I have the master tier and content sharing on but when my player bought volos it isn't showing up for me.

Yeah, my players can't view or read the PHB from my share. When they go to PHB it just asks them to 'add it to the cart'.
I have sent him a direct link (http://www.dndbeyond.com/compendium/rules/phb) and he can view the book.
A weird one for sure.
