I created a magical item. Added it to a character in a campaign (not my character). Removed the item from the characters inventory. Now, when I search for it as an item to add back to their inventory, it doesn't show up in the search list. I tested on other characters to see if it showed up and it does. I tested again to see if I removed it from these other characters, I could then re-add it and, sure enough, it won't show up in the search for it on those sheets either.
So it looks like if you remove a homebrewed item from a character, it'll never show up for that character's inventory search again. That's... bothersome.
OK, nevermind, it was my error. Because I had to use a chain shirt to replicate mage armour, it wasn't showing up even though I'd modified it as proficient like elven chain, because the character isn't proficient in medium armour and I had the proficiency modifier ticked. Which is odd, because it showed up the first time I searched for it but not the second, after I'd removed it.
Also, how on earth do you represent mage armour being in effect? Or disadvantage to saving throws when wearing armour you're not proficient in? Or resistances, where are resistances shown?
