if it helps, i discovered this too and my solution was to go into the spell details from your character sheet on dndbeyond. go to customize. add a 3 or 4 pt damage bonus(since that's the average of a 1d6 roll).
it's not pretty and you miss out on ever rolling a 6, but at least i don't have to worry when i inevitably forget to roll the d6 separately.
It's been more than 5 years at this point. Is this ever going to be fixed? How hard is it to add another different dice in the roll for this spell?
Probably very. The die-rolling system doesn't seem to have the ability to store a roll of multiple die types, so fixing it requires rewriting the back end to be able to store such rolls, then the front end to display them. Meanwhile, they have to make sure the changes don't break anything that already exists.

If it couldn't do multiple dice sets in a single roll, then I could understand: the mechanic is not there yet (even though it's 2025); however, the custom roll allows for multiple dice sets to be rolled concurrently. So the tech is there: it's not being built from scratch. This along with the 2014->2024 legacy oath subclass bug and probably a whole host of things, DnDBeyond is moreso end-users finding workarounds for a platform they're supposed to service for a game they support. I don't sub so I can get over it, but if I was a paying sub, I'd be thoroughly annoyed.

What it can do in a front-end user-interaction situation has very little to do with how the database representations and function call semantics work.

i guess that's a (very) dirty solution for now... thanks.
Any actual update on this situation???

*bump*
Wonder how many years this issue will persist....
Bump
It's been almost 4 years, any news?
Just tested, seems to finally roll correctly
How are you doing that? I just tested on the mobile site and it’s still just rolling 2d8
handful of years. still nothing, and they charge money for digital dice when it is isn't fully functional yet.
... ?
Still not fixed. Do they even care that some WoTC content still doesn't work right on their own platform after 4 years?
Nope. The dice-roller is forever to be in eternal-beta as far as they are concerned.
4 years since reported and no fix :(
is there any plans to improve this?
fix to this would be neat
