Had this problem and found that Chrome wasn't up to date, it was kinda weird too because it didn't tell me or anything, I only found out while going through my settings.
For those of us for whom enabling hardware acceleration did not work, try going to Chrome's experimental features (enter chrome://flags/ in URL bar) and enabling the "Override software rendering list" feature. Worked for me anyway!
