I managed to resolve this issue by deinstalling the app and then reinstalling it. After logging in I ticked the EULA and then redownloaded all books again. Now everything works as before.

This worked for me…but it shouldn’t be this way. Having to redownload all the content again is a waste and amazingly time consuming. Especially for those of us playing in the boonies.

Yes, you're right, this shouldn't be necessary.
I think it had something to do with some cookie (tracking?) settings that might have been added since the last time I logged in into the app. Since no consent had been given, the content couldn't be displayed correctly.
I'm also having this issue now and had it back in July (as reported here). Like others, I fixed it previously with an uninstall/reinstall. And yes, I encountered some kind of prompt at that time that I couldn't remember having seen previously. Really annoying.
Same issue and it makes reading with in the app pointless. Mine happened after upgrading my phone. I will have deleted the book and redownloaded to no effect. I will be trying the removal of the app and redownload…

I’m having this problem too! Had this going on for a year now! I tried to uninstall like you did and it worked for a while but then it came back suddenly. I’ve got no idea what caused this, but it didn’t happen until I changed phones. My other phone that has the app on it still works just fine which is odd. AFAIK the only solution is to uninstall and reinstall then download everything again; which takes a lot of time. It also erases all your bookmarks which I have many that are necessary to assist running my games. I don’t want to uninstall it again until we have an import/export bookmarks feature or a real hard fix. I posted my issue as well and the current fix I’ve got is to change the background as they suggest. I’ll edit this with the link to my post later if I can for some reason it won’t let me.

Mine too! I suggest not uninstalling because it isn’t a permanent fix.
As the title says, as of lately, all source books have a black background with black fonts and this cannot be read.

I did this a few months ago and it came back again a week later. It's definitely just a straight up bug.
I had this same bug just today, and while reinstalling does seem to fix it, I hope they can figure out the cause.
I also dealt with the eternal “asking for permission” screen every time I opened the app. Could be related?

The books are unreadable now!
I did the full uninstall, logout, delete content and re-install. I got a prompt I had never gotten before and it hasn't appeared again.

This issue is back. I also uninstalled and reinstalled accepting the tracking but all the CSS in the HTML is gone. The app is totally unusable

Still having this problem as of September 2024. As a longtime user and big spender on this app, it is infuriating.
You can use the display style if your using the app, it isn’t my favourite but it works.
