Is their a plan to add the new background features from Van Richten's Guide that were swappable? I.E. Inheritor, Mist Wanderer, Spirit Medium, Trauma Survivor, and Traveler. I am trying to do Haunted One but switch the feature to Spirit Medium.
While there isn't currently a way to natively drop in new background features during character creation, it's relatively easy to create a homebrew background offering this! In this case, all you need to do is create a homebrew background using Haunted One as the template, and change the background feature to Spirit Medium.
This is a limitation of the fact that it's the first (real) time a feature has been made available without a full background. The Custom Background system allows specific data from all available full backgrounds to be pulled, and the framework doesn't currently support being able to list only a partial background and have the other Custom Background drop-downs "ignore" the rest of the empty background. With all the recent chatter about the upcoming features system that's being implemented, it's certainly possible that more granular background control will be part of that, though we have no way of knowing for certain at the moment.
In the meantime I've written out a small guide to homebrew your own "Feature only" backgrounds for use in the Custom Background system, which would save you the trouble of having to homebrew a new background every time!

It's weird that they aren't even in the custom background.
