I tried mutliclassing 5 artificer / 15 wizard, but at level 20 there are no 9th level spells showing up. I assume this is because the availability only looks at the wizard level, disregarding the combined caster level of 18 (5/2 rounded up + 15 = 18). According to the wizard class details, you can choose a spell of a level which you have slots for. A lvl 15 wizard alone couldn't learn a 9th level spell, but 5 levels of artificer should allow that, or am I mistaken?
No, you'll want to reread the rules for multiclassing, especially the parts related to spellcasting. "You determine what spells you know and can prepare for each class individually, as if you were a single-classed member of that class. If you are a ranger 4/wizard 3, for example, you know three 1st-level ranger spells based on your levels in the ranger class."
