I was expecting links to monsters in Curse of Strahd to link to the full MM entry, not the basic rules. Why buy the MM if I have to leave the screen I'm on to go the full entry (by searching or hunting). I might as well just keep the real MM nearby and flip to the entry. It's just as fast.
Another example is that there areas in CoS that mention the PHB and what page to find it on, but don't link to it. Why not? Isn't that the point of having all this stuff in an online format?
Really defeats the point of having links and getting value from purchase content.
If by full entry you mean the descriptions and lore that accompany each monster in the MM, these are being added to individual monster pages but it hasn't been done for all monsters yet. You can see it in effect for adult red dragon for example.
The missing links to PHB and such are probably things that staff can clean up if you point out specific instances.
The links to the monsters, like Vampire, links to the monster listing entry, which has all the information about that monster (stats block and description).

Thanks. if I understand you correctly, they are adding the extra MM content to the monster stats if you own it? why not link to the MM directly? Just trying to understand this. It seems like a duplication of content (once in the Monster section and again in the actual MM). Am I misunderstanding?
The Monster Listing has the same information the MM has, but the listing has the search and filter features, which aren't possible in the Compendium Section.
ok, that makes sense. Is my understanding correct that the extra information only appears in the Monster Listing if you own the corresponding book? In other words, can anyone see the background info for the Adult Red Dragon?
No. Anyone can see the stats of the Adult Red Dragon because those stats are in the Basic Rules. With the purchase of the MM (or the single monster), you unlock the description/lore of that monster.
If a monster is not from the Basic Rules, with the purchase you unlock both stats and description/lore.
