The character sheet does most of the calculating for you. If a spell requires a spell attack (that is, you roll, rather than the target having to make a saving throw) then it's your D20 roll plus your spell attack modifier (which is your proficiency bonus plus the modifier for your spellcasting stat. So if you start with a 16 INT, then your modifier is +3, so your spell attack modifier is 5, so you roll D20+5 to hit). Damage is usually specific to the spell and almost never adds anything to the dice. If you are supposed to add something, it'll say so. (Examples: magic missile says each dart deals 1d4+1. Fireball is just 8d6, nothing added. Spiritual weapon is 1d8+spellcasting ability mod)
How do i calculate spell damage for a 1st lvl Wizard? Ability modifier for attack? Prof. mod. for attack? Both for damage or neither?
