Let's say I create a number of unassigned characters for a campaign. Players choose which of these characters they want to play. But how can they return those characters to the "pool" of unassigned characters in the campaign. When my players attempt to do so, working through the options D&D Beyond give them (leave campaign, ect.) it seems like whatever they choose the characters end up in their own list of characters in their accounts and their only choice is to delete them when they can get them back to my, the DM's, account in the campaign I created. Are we missing something?
I can see that this would be completely unnecessary in the vast majority of campaigns. But in this case it is a series of one-offs where players are indeed meant to play different characters over different sessions.

The player just needs to click "Unassign" while in the campaign.
Thank you very much for pointing that out.
