Okay but I really wanna see the next public announcement so badly.
The suits are undoubtedly going to tell them to sugarcoat it and spin it even more, the only other route is admitting they lied which they absolutely won't do.
Ultimately I want a good outcome for everyone but watching customer action make even a noticeable blip on a corporate radar is fun to see.
When the "Update" was posted I saved the page minutes after it was visible. Shortly after, I noticed the text had changed. I've uploaded a comparison of this text to Imgur here: https://imgur.com/gallery/hhkoG7B What strikes me most is that the terms "leaked" and "under NDA" have been removed. As if WotC does not want us to know about that, and is still in denial of the facts.
The services here do not reflect the what you charge.
This is why everyone needs other tools to play the 'your' game.
Maybe if better services were offered you would have a better profit share. Practical interaction (other than character sheets) with this site is atrocious = why NO ONE uses it.
Who here uses D&D Beyond as their virtual table?
Do you LIVE in beta?
(Others who offer better products and services is not their fault. : ) and saying all their thoughts are your personal property is BS = we don't work for you)

What a fascinating image. You can see them removing any wording that suggests any part of this was out of their control. They add a little joke in there, too, to better paint the picture that they're comfortable, that they're not shaken up by this. Most strange is the decision to change "we intended not to" -> "we didn't intend to." I can't really explain that in a satisfactory way.
My response to OGL 1.1 was to unsubscribe. Based on the most recent response I went out and bought pathfinder. We didn't deserve that pile of false garbage. There's a lot of great games out there and until wotc turns it around and starts treating the community and 3rd party creators with fairness and respect I'm spending money elsewhere.
If I could unsubscribe twice because of their spin about it being 'a draft for feedback,' I would.
First they made a mess, then they doubled the mess by insulting our intelligence. Who did they think would buy that line? They got caught with their hand in the cookie jar and refuse to accept it was because they were greedy. Pretending like they were getting cookies out of the jar for all of us.
The statement's demonstrated lack of respect and responsibility now has me looking for VTTs and character sheet apps that work with Pathfinder, or importable databases of material not directly linked to DDB.
So the executives at corporate level fumbled their Insight so bad the dice didn't just roll one, it bounced off the table rolled out the door, tripped up a fan in front of traffic resulting in major pile up. Now they're in damage control after completely missing that they were trying to extort the community-spirit that makes their product remotely viable.
5E mechanics a 'meh' above low level and WOTC's modules are pretty but below average, however DnD Beyond is (IMHO) still the best TTRPG character builder interface currently available that I know of.
My DM subscription is paid up until August. The renewal is cancelled. I'll be watching to see what rolls out, from WOTC and the community, over the next few months before I decide whether I'll renew again or bid farewell to all the releases I've paid for.
This OGL 1.1 and the follow up 2.0 are really bad signs on the DnD sky. It looks like Sauron is running his first tabletop game. In the process, everyone dies, but then he simply apologizes... because asking for an apology is no longer possible.
This feels so surreal. I was really excited to continue investing my time and money into this game and community for so many years to come. But after what happened last week, my trust and belief in WotC as a company have been badly shaken up. As a DM, I already do more work than an average player, and seeing how some VTTs and other 3rd party tools could potentially get taken down really caused me great concern, as that will directly affect my effort level into prepping sessions moving forward. This is on top of a blow to the beloved community of 3rd party content creators. Seeing how an upper management decision could wreck someone else's livelihood left a sour taste in my mouth. I feel for the small creators and mom-n-pop local stores.
I've given WotC more than a couple hundred dollars during the last 3-4 years so this feels difficult to do but I canceled my sub as of yesterday since my 6 months renewal is coming up in a few days. I currently have a campaign going on and our group relies on DnDBeyond for character management and sharing source materials. Though, moving forward, at least for the next few months, we're fine with using the compendium and character sheet in Foundry to continue our session until I figure out a replacement for DnDBeyond.
I honestly don't know how WotC could rebuild that broken trust.
I used to want to work for wizards of the coast as well. I wanted to write a Zendikar themed Dungeons and Dragons book. Now I’ve decided to become an author. It’s similar to a DnD campaign but with more planning and you have more control.
As an Evil DM I respect true Evil when I see it (HasBorg do not care for the people working for them, the fan, anyone loving TTRPG).
Now do you want to associate with anyone Evil even Lawful Evil??? do you have moral?? If not it's your money, if you love slavery, it makes sense to give your money to WotC.
I have unsubscribed from dndbeyond and will never give HasBorg any money. But I will use my books of 5E it's not the enemy, and will buy 5E 3rd party only stuff...
Can we maybe ignore the bit were they want to leverage their VTT to make what's effectively video-games of their modules, which who the f*&^ cares, and focus on the actual issue which was their lies and attempt to slide OGL 1.1 past us?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I Cancelled my Master Tier Subscription January 12th 2023 because of "OGL" 1.1 - Resubscribed 28th of Jan, now the SRD is in CC-BY-4.0

Agreed. Product innovation is to be expected, and isn't a big deal, even if it is stupid. Don't lose sight of the fact that they've got a lot of work to do if they're going to make things right.

I find your lack of development ..... disturbing.

Looking at those text changes,, I wonder what their document versioning notes say. Assuming they have any!

Peace be with you friend.
I've never tried Pathfinder 2e... I think its about time.

Wow 30 dollars per month to play D and D with an AI DM on Beyond. Time to try a new game.
