I was thinking about a couple changes, that could improve the accessibility for anyone so I‘ll start a list here, I‘d love to hear your feedback on those ideas and come up with even better improvements :)
So far I bought the PHB and XGTE (just as an information)
1: If I want to check something in the PHB or XGTE I need to go to „COMPENDIUM“ there I see everything D&D Beyond offers, but no easy way to access my content I already bought. The eye needs to search for it.
Solution 1A: The stuff we bought could get a separate entry under „MY CONTENT“ since it is my content now.
Solution 1B: Maybe it‘s possible to separate the Content you bought „COMPENDIUM like this (not sure why this is not showing directly)
Character Sheets - They are awesome but still confusing to some degree and there is a problem if you export them as a PDF.
2: You have those HUGE „Blocks“ ( Abilities | Skills | Attacks | Features | Description | Notes | Limited Use | Equipment | Spells) and on a mobile device this takes a lot of space and I need to scroll a lot from bottom to top
Solution: Maybe it would help, if we could „collapse“ those “blocks” at will, so that we can open them when we need it, would take less space and would be easier on mobile devices I guess
3: The Order of those „Blocks“ seems strange to me I use Skills & Spells quite often, but nearly never use Notes or Description, but still they are in the middle of all of them, thats bothering me really hard ^^‘ (maybe it‘s just me)
Solution: Is there a way, that we could arrange those „Blocks“ like we want? For Example: Abilities | Skills | Attacks | Spells | Limited Use | Features | Equipment | Description | Notes
4: This will be tricky since I have no Idea ho it`s called. In the Features „Block“ you can click on the +Symbol to open the tab and read more about the Feature. Let‘s take Breathweapon, if I want to read the whole explanation of Breathweapon, I need to scroll down so far, that I need to scroll back up to close the tab, that‘s kind of annoying.
Solution: Make a -Symbol at the bottom of an opened tab, so that can you close it after reading, without scrolling up again. This will make it way better to access on a mobile device.
5: Where do I find this and that?
I play a Vengeance Paladin of 6th Level and if I look at the „Block“ Limited Use I see Channel Divinity, clock on it to open the drop down and start to read ... no word of what it does, that makes no sense to me, since I can checkmark it here if I have used it, if I want to know what it does, I need to look for it at the Features „Block“ scroll scroll scroll etc. This costs a lot of time and seems confusing, especially for new players.
Solution: Put the explanation what it does from Features into the Used Skill „Block“ (This was just an example I‘m sure there are more than this specific one)
I‘m sorry if this sounds like a rant or something, that is not my intend at all, I was just thinking how I would like it to be after using it, maybe my „Ideas“ a total BS, just tell me ^^‘
p.S. As you can see in my "Screenshot" in Solution 1B the Dropdown-Manu is off (Google Chrome 66.0.3359.181)
Thank you for taking the time to give us some comprehensive feedback and ideas.
The character sheet as you currently know it will be going away soon, to be replaced by a totally revamped version, that is massively better and includes solutions to all of the character sheet issues you noted above. :)
You can see a preview of some of this on the recent dev stream from about 26 minutes in.
Than my only "complain" would be point 1 I guess, looking forward to thoses sheets, not sure tho if they are "easier" to use but I'll see for myself when they are out, thanks for the link :)
Don't feel bad for missing it, I only stumbled across it recently thanks to a helpful link like this. It's very hard to find any information about it if you don't make a habit of watching hour-long dev update videos.
I'm just glad to know that it's still moving forward and looking good. With the repeated delays and the lack of information, I was starting to wonder if it had been quietly back-burnered.
