Most of us are in active campaigns that go by the 2014 rule sets. A complete override gets rid of all of our current content that our characters and campaigns rely on. That doesn't even take into account my past characters and already planned characters that also abide by the old rule sets. It's a complete and total disregard to the community. Keep the 2014 rules and label them as legacy. Give your user base an option, you know the people who keep this game alive, instead of punishing them.
Even IF WoTC's Homebrew interface wasn't an absolute pile of dog shit, I STLL wouldn't be willing to put in the mind-numbing amount of hours it would take to Homebrew all spells and items.
There aren't that many spells being affected. Some of the spells don't even have modifiers or anything and are just text - so those can be homebrewed with a copy-paste taking like 20 seconds. Some are even very simple, like Cure Wounds is only 2d8 instead of 1d8, so you could make a copy in a few clicks, edit the 2 to a 1, and done - that's like 30 seconds tops. Same with healing word. Some like the conjure spells are also easily homebrewed, in like 2 mins or less.
Homebrewing all changed spells wouldn't even take 40 mins, let alone "hours".
Now, don't get me wrong, even 40 mins is a lot when you've paid for the convenience to not do so, - the frustration is justified - I'm just correcting the expectation here.
Obviously, I can't say to Magic Items, because we do not know how many were changed. But for spells - not that many were changed.

what do i do if we are in the middle of a campaign? also is it worth just switching to roll 20? i just don't want to have to rebuy all the books we use for our campaign.
I'll take a crack at Demiplane, they seem to have their shit together.
The irony of this statement given that Demiplane was made by the same people who made D&D Beyond.
Demiplane is good, but it is restrictive: you cannot made any ad-hoc adjustments or homebrew. It's an official only or nothing kinda system.

So I spent hundreds of dollars for all these books that I can just no longer access? Are we getting PDFs if the books are going away? I don't think we are. I always buy the sourcebooks, why are you taking those away instead of just adding things? Make them legacy at least please. This is awful and scummy. Why??????????????? I want to support dndbeyond, but it's getting harder and harder to do so.

I’m in a high level campaign that’s been going on for eight years. We aren’t planning on switching over to 2024 rules for this campaign, even if we’re considering it for future campaigns. Switching this over is going to be super confusing for us— we’ve spent all this time learning our now level 20 characters and many of us have spells, magic items etc.
now we have to decide whether to:
1. spend hours making homebrew versions of our spells and magic items in the cumbersome homebrew creator
or 2. go back to analog sheets :(
It feels really disruptive and inconsiderate of the player base to promise backward compatibility and then change things our character sheets to the new version.
I'm running a 2 homebrew campaigns using 2014 rules. I can't just suddenly change to 2024 rules on the fly! One has been going on for almost 4 damn years!! Why would they ever think we would be happy with this decision? Let us toggle 2014/2024 so we can DECIDE what to do!! Didn't they say over and over that people playing with 2024 rules could use stuff from 2014 and vice versa?????
I have to turn every character sheet I own into PDFs so I don't lose them because I ain't keeping my damn subscription!!

Don't forget you also need to homebrew any subclasses\backgrounds etc that grant spells, otherwise they'll just grant the new versions. I expect the same with magic items when they are changed, even if the item itself is unchanged you'll need to homebrew if it grants a spell.
I've used DnD Beyond because I'm so hard on paper and having something to keep track of my spells is so helpful for my forgetful brain. I have players who do that same. We're in the middle of 2 campaigns that have been going for years. It's going to be awful if we have to completely change our medium or be forced to have different mechanics. This is unacceptable.

True, but again, not difficult and takes very little time.

As a DM running games based on the 2014 Rules, using Beyond for player character sheets based on my content sharing, this is an inherently problematic change. There is zero reason for me to keep paying for a Master Tier subscription to Beyond if I cannot reap the benefits of what I am paying for. As many have said, it just isn't worth the hassle of switching rules mid-campaign. Either the rule sets have to be toggle-able, or we will move entirely off the platform and cancel subscriptions. Happy to take my business to other platforms and support development that is geared to the user, not the corporation.

But you are losing access to using some content. Spells and magic items, for example. Which is fine for me as I can just port them all over on foundry as I already synced, but the absolute gall of locking content away to be remade as homebrew? That's the kick in the teeth.

Completely, agree. This is insane

Yup. This is purely a Hasbro money grab. I get being able to change subscription options, but as others have said, this is content we paid for.
Oh absolutely!! I have bought a lot from this website! Almost all my books I got on here! If I leave, that is just burnt money in my pocket. It SUCKS
